Gamo Gofa zone is located under southern sub region of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s regional State , the zonal Capital Arbaminch is situated at 280 km distance from SNNP Regional capital city of Hawassa and 553 km from Addis Ababa. It has an altitude which Ranges from 3000meters above sea level(masl) called Daga (High land); and altitude ranging from 1800-2400(masl) called woinadaga(Midland). The mean annul Temperature Ranges from 150c-300c and the mean annual rainfall also ranges from 400-2200mm.
Due to its agro climatic suitability, abundant irrigable land with fertile soil, and the settlement pattern of the population, the Gamogofa zone consider to be the ideal site for the production of broad range of fruits and vegetables. Current horticultural crops include Banana, Apple, Avocado, Mango, and Papaya and also a variety of vegetables are cultivated in most parts of the zone.
The Horticultural Sub-Sector of Fruit &vegetable development is the most wide spread farming practice in the farming communities among the rest of integrated farming practices of the zone particularly the three wordeas of the zone like Arbaminch zuria west Abaya and chencha words that are famous For their trait development potential specially on fruits such as Banana, Apple and Mango in product volume quality wise in the country, for instance.
